Richard Witlin

Dr. Richard S Witlin M.D., F.A.C.S. practiced surgical ophthalmology in New Jersey and New York for 40 years at the Witlin Center for Advanced Eye Care. He personally performed thousands of cataract and lens implant operations, glaucoma procedures and Lasik procedures.

He received his BA in biology from New York University in 1972, graduating Magna Cum Laude. He attended medical school at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York City and graduated with honors. He is a member of both Phi Beta Kappa national honor society and Alpha Omega Alpha, the national medical honor society.

Dr. Witlin is a noted speaker and ophthalmic educator and has lectured at meetings across the US as well as internationally. He always worked closely in the care of patients with other eye care professionals and was a pioneer in the development of eye care teams including optometric physicians.

He has been elected a fellow of both the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American College of Surgery. He has held teaching positions at Wills Eye Hospital in Philadelphia, the New York Eye and Ear Infirmary and the State College of Optometry in New York City.

Dr. Witlin and his wife have had a second home in Sedona since 2011. His wife, Nancy Weinman A.I.A., is one of the leading architects in Sedona and has designed and built many custom homes. Working together, Richard and Nancy also have a home-building business in Sedona and have built and sold several speculative homes in the area.

Dr. Witlin is now retired and lives in Sedona at a house that he and Nancy built for themselves in 2017.

Dr. Witlin is active in many local organizations. He is presently on the Board of the Chamber Music Society of Sedona. Both he and Nancy are active members of the Sedona and Verde Valley Jewish Center where he is the current head of the Adult Education Committee. He is also active in the Homeowners Association in Sedona where they reside.

Dr Witlin is a world traveler and loves to plan the trips. He and Nancy have been to over 30 countries. Dr Witlin is also an avid wine collector and oenophile and happily shares his love of wine with friends and neighbors. He maintains an apartment in New York to allow him and Nancy to continue to enjoy theater, concerts and the dining scene that is New York City. Dr. Witlin remains a lifelong Yankees fan.
